Fresh From The Farm

21.07.2011 Perry's first calf

The dry time hasn't helped the crops much but it has been fantastic for the animals on the farm. The sheep and cows think they've woken up in Australia. The rain arrived in time to keep the grass growing and hopefully the wheat will make up for harvest.  It is difficult to read a season like this but we are ready to start harvest and don't need the rain - but we will have to wait and see.

Most of the lambs have gone to market - which is a month early - and we are doing well with the cows calfing but it is spread over too long a time - they should all be born by now.Valentino the Red Poll bull went lame on us last year and wasn't doind his job.

Perry the Aberdeen Angus has had his first calf - a very large boy - and we will now see a flush of black calves. They stand out in a herd of all red cows.

We are at the CLA Gamefair this week end and hope the weather has returned to hot and dry. The Holkham Gamefair was a wash out in the afternoons with massive cloud bursts.
